The desert landscape that's stunning at sunrise can feel flat and uninviting after dark — or worse, become a security liability. Strategic lighting changes everything.
Turfli designs lighting plans that highlight your home's architecture, frame mature saguaros and desert trees, define pathways, and create warm, welcoming ambiance for the outdoor living hours most Scottsdale homeowners favor — the cooler evenings.
We use exclusively low-voltage LED fixtures with color temperatures dialed to complement desert landscaping: warm 2700K for intimate spaces, 3000K for architecture, and strategic cool whites where activity demands visibility.

Every fixture type serves a distinct purpose in a well-designed lighting plan.
Ground-set fixtures aimed upward to dramatize palms, saguaros, boulders, and architectural features. The signature look of Scottsdale luxury homes after dark.
Fixtures mounted high in trees that cast downward dappled light mimicking moonlight. Creates a magical, natural effect across patios and ground cover.
Low-profile bollards and ground-set fixtures that mark walkways safely without overpowering surrounding plantings. Integrated into paver borders for a refined look.
Broad-beam fixtures that wash walls and facades evenly, creating depth and texture. Essential for Tuscan, Spanish Colonial, and modern desert-contemporary homes.
Color-changing submersible LEDs for pools, spas, and water features. Synced with smart controllers for ambiance scenes at the touch of an app.
Recessed riser lights and deck face fixtures that add safety and style to elevation changes, retaining walls, and raised patio areas.
Task lighting for prep areas, under-counter accent strips, and overhead pendants for pergolas and ramadas. Waterproof and weather-rated for outdoor use.
Spotlights that illuminate the canopy from below, silhouetting branches against the sky. Works beautifully with mature palo verde, mesquite, and citrus trees.
Modern landscape lighting is about more than just on/off. Turfli integrates smart control systems that give you complete flexibility over your outdoor environment.

"Curtis designed a full property system that integrates with our Crestron system. The scenes for entertaining versus security are exactly what we wanted."
"Our HOA in DC Ranch approved the design on the first submission. Turfli clearly knows the lighting standards for these communities."
Almost all residential landscape lighting uses low-voltage (12V) systems powered by a transformer. Low-voltage is safer (no electrocution risk from garden digging), energy-efficient, and easy to expand or modify. Line-voltage (120V) is occasionally used for commercial-grade area lighting but isn't appropriate for most residential landscape applications.
Quality LED landscape fixtures are rated for 50,000+ hours — that's roughly 25 years of typical use. The key is sourcing fixtures rated for high-temperature operation (105°F+ ambient). We only install fixtures tested and warrantied for desert climates. Avoid off-brand LED fixtures that can fail within a season in Arizona sun.
Low-voltage LED systems are remarkably efficient. A full 30-fixture system typically uses less electricity than a single 100-watt incandescent bulb. Most homeowners see a monthly increase of $5–$20 depending on zone count and hours of operation. Smart controllers with sunrise/sunset scheduling keep runtime optimized.
Absolutely. We convert halogen systems to LED regularly — it's one of the best ROI upgrades available. In most cases we can reuse existing transformer and wiring; it's typically just a fixture swap. You'll see dramatically better light quality, lower energy use, and far less maintenance.
North Scottsdale and many HOA communities (particularly those near desert preserves) have specific outdoor lighting requirements limiting light trespass, glare, and upward-directed light. We design all systems in compliance with Scottsdale's outdoor lighting code and community-specific standards.
